A Literal Curtain Raising

Rheinmetall, Europe’s foremost supplier of army technology and a longstanding partner of the armed forces, unveiled its new Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle at Eurosatory 2018 in a rather exciting way. They lifted a curtain, quite literally, complete with smoke and 80s rock, grabbing everyone’s attention. The company is said to have set sights on meeting requirements for both European and U.S. future combat vehicles.

A Vehicle That Took Everyone By Surprise

SHERP, an unusual looking vehicle from STREIT, was quite a crowd puller, thanks to its humongous tires and the surprising things it can do. The vehicle’s gigantic self-inflating tires turn it into a tiny tank that’s capable of floating and swimming. The bulletproof combat all-terrain vehicle delivers amazing off-road performance on the toughest of terrains including slick ice and steep rocky inclines.

There’s Always A First Time

If the reports are anything to go by, the French Army could have its first unmanned vehicle by 2025. This summer, the French Army and the government procurement office will start talks for acquiring a new light armored vehicle, “VBAE”, which if made to be controlled remotely, would be the first unmanned vehicle for the French Army, and is being seen as a replacement for the VBL light vehicle.

A Litmus Test In The Offing?

Day 2 at Eurosatory 2018 saw the head of the European Defence Agency proposing an ideological litmus test for Non-European Union States that vie for funding under the continent’s emerging defense architecture. He proposed that they be judged by their commitment to a common defense enterprise. The idea was pitched in response to a question about how he foresees Britain’s exit from the EU playing out in the defense sector.

CBRNe Events Taking The Centerstage

The CBRNe domain is to be covered by several events at Eurosatory, and day 2 saw a tabletop exercise on CBRNe complex situations, and a CBRNe conference, “State of the CBRNe Threat in the World,” organized by HCFDC.
