The Unveiling Of A Joint Project
Day 5 at Eurosatory 2018 witnessed the unveiling of the French-German KNDS (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann + Nexter Defense Systems) Group’s highly-awaited first joint project, the, or the European Main Battle Tank. The EMBT is being seen as a short-term response to the operational need of the market for high-intensity battle tanks. KNDS is of the opinion that EMBT shows that their combined skills make it the legitimate & essential industrial actor of the two key French- German future programmes.
A Full-Scale Mock-Up On Display
Yugoimport, a Serbian state-owned intermediary company for the import and export of defense-related equipment, wowed the audience with a full-scale mock-up of the “Strsljen” (Hornet), armed with 12 small-diameter bombs that are under development as of now. Strsljen, a rotary-wing unmanned air vehicle, has been getting a lot of attention of late, especially because of its structure, much of which is constructed from composites. The air vehicle is capable of undertaking both reconnaissance and attack missions, and is equipped with outrigger pylons and an underbelly hardpoint for external stores.
There’s Always A First Time
Eurosatory 2018 also saw the debut of a large number of defence companies, including the Polish company “Concept”. The Bielsko-Biala based company showcased a range of vehicles for special, mechanised and reconnaissance forces, and chose to display two variants (armored and unarmored) of the Dino transport vehicle at the show. The vehicle is said to be a result of the company’s cooperation with Oberaigner Automotive and Mercedes-Benz.

Precision Targeting Takes The Centerstage
With the Turkish defence electronics specialist Aselsan showcasing solutions for precision targeting from tactical aircraft, including Aselpod, an advanced targeting pod, precision targeting became the talking point in no time. The fact that the company has also developed a range of precision-guided munitions may have also contributed in shifting the focus to precision targeting.
