With the International Yoga Day just around the corner, the ancient practice has been all over the news of late. While yoga is not new per se, it has been redesigned or rather reimagined, at least in some parts of the world. It has a lot of new forms, many of which are quite funny, so to say. Here are the top 5 giggle-worthy trends that have been catching on.
It is actually a thing. You attend a yoga class that’s more or less similar to every yoga class that you have been to, except that here you also gulp down a bottle or two of beer over the course of the session. What’s even funnier is that you could be asked to attempt to balance the bottle on your head while holding yourself in the instructor’s pose of choice.
Yoga is already hard enough. In news that appears to be the happy-accident byproduct of a hipster laboratory experiment gone awry, something called “beer yoga” wants to make your exercise routine of choice a little sloppier.
Dog parlors are a thing of the past. Welcome to the age of DOH’-guh. This one claims to have its own share of advantages: your dog has a better posture, you and your dog get some bonding time, and the poor soul has that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to socialize. Phew!
A New York exercise class is bringing new meaning to the phrase “downward-facing dog.” A Rochester-area veterinarian is teaching a dog-and-human class called doga (DOH’-guh). WOMAN DOING YOGA ON PLANE SPARKS ONLINE DEBATE: NOBODY NEEDS TO SEE PEOPLE FLAILING ABOUT Dr. Danni Shemanski of the Hilton Veterinary Hospital tells WHEC that doga can improve dogs’ posture.
It’s not as funny as the others but does offer you an alternate – a good one for that matter, taking the mundaneness out of your yoga routine. You stand on a paddleboard, and keep yourself balanced and afloat. And yes if do fall, others can have a good laugh at your expense. Just kidding!
Is your yoga routine getting a little stale? If you’re looking for a new challenge, yoga on a stand up paddleboard will reinvigorate you and push you to become an even better yogi than you thought possible — all while enjoying the natural splendor of floating on water.
This one has a waiting list, and you may not be able to experience it for yourself for a while. Incredible, right? Imagine, these small animals jumping up onto your back as you try to maintain something difficult, like a plank position. A sight for sore eyes. LOL!
Her goat yoga classes have become so popular, there’s a 1,200-person waiting list that’s growing by the day. The classes are held at Morse’s scenic Oregon farm, where the goats have open access to the guests during their practice. Snuggles are not uncommon, and neither is the occasional upward goat on a downward dog.
Been looking for a non-judgmental yoga class, where it’s ok if you can’t touch your toes? Brogan’s to your rescue. It’s a yoga class, specifically for men, especially if you are a bit reluctant to join a class dominated by women. Quite a male chauvinist thing, some might say, but men who swear by it, seem to disagree. In fact, they have done away with the calming chants and soft music and replaced it with tracks that are more mainstream.
If you’re a man who has struggled through yoga class feeling self-conscious next to a woman who can touch her nose to her knees with ease, take heed. A Broga studio may be coming to a city near you. But what is Broga, exactly?
These trends may be funny, but they do you some solid good. You keep your phone aside and spend some time breathing and stretching. So they are not all bad. However, those who practice yoga in its true sense might not agree. To each his own. What matters is that you take to yoga in whatever way you can.
